    Adjusting Valves - what else should/could I replace/upgrade?

I just picked up my first e30 325is...or bmw in general really. According to the PO, the replaced motor has 180k on it. I'm planning on adjusting the valves soon because it's quite noisy. I'm looking to boost the car in the future and would like to start prepping the motor.

What else would benefit from being replaced / upgraded while I'm in there? I'm not looking to do a cam swap or anything just yet - just strengthen it up and get it running strong first.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Guys always talk about doing the water pump while doing the timing belt. Personally, I say do the cam seals instead. I mean yeah, if you have the money adn time, do both, but the pump is not that bad to do separately.

See, the deal is that my valves are SO worn I cannot use the normal procedure. My car got badly abused byt a couple of POs for like 200,000 miles, so the rules go out the window.

Soon, the whole motor swappie thing is gonna go down. Soon as my '91 project car gets done anyway....woot! Bone stock 325is on springs and wheels FTW!

What should I look for to asses the condition of the valves and other things while the cover's off?

If you really wanna be serious about this, pull the rocker retainer and slide the rocker over to look at the tip of the valve (X12, of course) then loosen the adjuster and flip it over.

Look for wear on the cam lobes, too.
