strang engine problem or just a bad luck????

first i have a 320i 89' m20b20,while i was on a trip of a mountain road 370km and after finishing 300km i heard a ticking noise that was developing till it became unbearable i popped the hood to cheack but everything seems OK i suspect an oil pressure problem but at that time the oil pressure light was off plus it was hot morning so i continue driving till i reach my last destination.
my mechanic suggested to open the valve cover to see the rockers that he suspected.but nothing happened to the rockers we open the head and it showed that #2 piston was hitting the exhaust valve coz of a totally worn rod bearing. i changed new bearings, rings ,valve guides , piston arm, port and polished the head.after replacing a started the engine and it heated up till the gauge reached the red line, then it appeard to be a stuck thermostate, i changed new one then we started the car and i hear a ticking valves even after adjesting the valves, i was oil not reaching to one of the camchafts, i bought a new oil pump and it's been install at the moment i'm sorry my camera was battery dead.
soory to make you read but i guess that my story might help someone sometime.
    thanks

Ugh, I hate hearing these kinds of stories.... I've had this happen to me badly in my ca18det (180sx). One of the lobe on the cams grinded one of the oil holes shut and prevented oil from coming out of there. I dunno how badly yours is but from hearing your story, you drove the car a long ways before you took it all apart...
