Pull your plugs and check for uber rich.

Mine has the same hard start on warm, but only like 45% of the time.

It is rich for sure, between the tell tale smell, the shit-teee mileage and the super hard start, it is richpiggie for sure. I just don't fucking care, injectors or FPR, whatever.

I just hold the throttle to the floor and crank, generally hits in 10 to 15 seconds.

I will fix that motherfucker when it actually breaks.

Since I am planning on adding 12 more valves in the near future, we shall see what the hell to think of all of this crap.

New FS ad..."M20, on 32billion miles, cheap!" yeah, right.

Zing... or fuel pump maybe even. That's how mine was acting up and it ended up being FPR. I drove it home the same way, by using the left foot on the brake and right on the clutch/gas at all times so that it wouldn't die....

Interesting development - It almost stranded me at work. No inclination whatsoever to fire, it was just turning. I check every connection under the hood, beat on the afm and icv to free anything that may be sticking, and it starts RIGHT up. Drove great home, no dying. Nothing in there seemed loose, this thing is possessed...

Threw code 1221 during no start, but that may be old. I'm thinking I'll run with O2 disconnected.

I sure hope so - I'm getting a replacement for that. What I DON'T want is some gay harness/ECU/electrical shit. Fuck it, I'm buying a DD and sourcing an M30. The stock market's gonna come back, right? :ugh:

Well, warm starting is definitely one of the symptoms this thing has, and dying off idle is another. I think that this is probably a harness issue since my CTS was replaced... :-/

Update for anyone with similar issues who searches: it was the ECU.

What was with the ECU. did you visually inspect the old one? Did you notice anything by looking at it? Corrosion, broken wire, bad pin...etc?

My money is on the FPR. Mine did the same damn thing and i lucked out when I pulled the vac line to it, puked raw fuel out of the vac diaphragm side, so it wasn't a hair pulling experience that lasted days. Just remember to pull your battery positive off to reset the 'puter or the car will remain in limp home mode.

An ECU only fixed it briefly. It was really running rich due to a clogged fuel return

Having the same issue here in a '90 BMW 325i

My neighbor mechanic said its the AFM when he took a look at it.

I called a shop in town and they said out of all they years they've been open they have only had to swap out 7 AFM. So that it maybe super rare thats my problem.

He did mention the Fuel Line which is something I've been wanting to get too. This maybe my chance, change the hard lines and hoses maybe even the pump.

This car did sit around for sometime before the owner who I bought it from, so the Fuel being clogged makes more and more sense.

BavRest doesn't have any AFM in stock so I'll have to get on the list and wait to send mine off. Will be replacing the Relay like Luke mentioned, they look like they haven't been touched since it came out the factory hahaha. Just ordered a TBS and will swap when AFM comes in.

Just put a bottle of CRC 1 Tank Power Renew see if it helps. Only driven couple miles like 14 and getting same starting results.

Will take it to the shop on Monday see what they think, test the Fuel Pressure make sure we are all good. If not time for a Fuel Line Overhaul!
