    M20 refresh questions

In preparation for my auto to tranny swap, I plan on pulling the motor/tranny as a whole and doing the work outside of the car. The question is, what parts are worth replacing on the M20 while I have it out of the car?

I did the water pump/timing belt and drive belts in the last 5000 miles, i've also done the oil pan gasket, even though it may still be leaking...

    Any input is welcome.

    thanks!

    the leaking oil pan gasket. . . . . . . . . .
why does it have to be a "dead end"? why not just "end"?

Do the timing belt again anyway...

        Motor mounts, trans mounts...

On the rear main though... I think that in 20 years of these things rolling in and out of the shop I've only seen ones leak that were bad replacements or leaking secondary to a wiped out engine...

Thanks for the insight...I think I will do the timing belt again and just refresh all things I can while I have it out...tranny mounts I just did, engine mounts look to be fine, but I'll check and possibly do those as well.

Replace camshaft. Install new motor. 8)

Seriously, replace everything rubber. And don't use a pan gasket.

I HATE cork gaskets. They will ALWAYS end up leaking or seeping. FIPG FTMFW. And I did check the clearance between the sump and pickup without one: about 3/8".

True, but I don't think anyone makes a rubber gasket for this, no?

FIPG is the stuff you get from Toyota that looks and acts like RTV silicone, but isn't. It's a kick-ass sealant.

Mechanics call that stuff "hondaglue" it fucking works way better than a gasket, but makes parts a bitch to take apart again.

                          Hondabond, Yamabond, FIPG...

All the OE sealants kick the shit out of RTV.

Yes, parts can be difficult to disassemble, but why would you need to pull the oil pan on a M20?
