    changing rev limiter?

i was wondering if there was any way to change the stock rev limiter that is either free or extremely cheap. im tired of this bs 6500 rpm crap. lol.

im only asking because the vast majority of my auto experience is with miatas (no homo), and i know that you can solder in a different crystal on the stock ecu and it will bump the limiter to whatever you want it too.

As far as I know, the only way to change the rev limit is via a chip. The benefit from doing so is somewhat dubious. The torque has fallen off in that range and there's a greater chance of breaking a rocker.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

unless you've ported the head and added a better cam the engine falls flat on its face right around the stock rev limiter. afaik

Just go with the chip instead of going the "easy" route. You might regret it if you don't.

good points. my car is cammed though and pulls hard as shit until it hits the limiter. looks like ill be getting a chip soon.

what about advancing the ignition timing?

The ignition timing is electronically controlled, so you'd still need a chip.

I'd suggest that you put the car on a dyno and see what the torque curve looks like. The cam will affect the curve, but the 12v head is still going to impose an upper limit. You may not be making as much power at the top end as your butt dyno indicates.

if you cammed with 278 ,284, or 288 you should replace with better rockers if you want to pull + 7000. metric mechanics good choice.
                guarentee broken rockers if stock
