    Coolant Temp Sensor.

Can someone please explain to me how this would affect an m20's idle? I have an idle that goes into open loop mode after a few minutes of driving. So far I have replaced the ICM and cleaned the ICV.

Replacing the coolant temp sensor is next on my list but I am not sure why it would affect the idle...

    Thanks

There are two temp sensors, one for the gauge and one for the DME. The temp sensor that supplies data to the DME is what determines when the DME goes into closed loop mode.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

      which one is which?

      From PP:

      Temperature Sending Unit for Temperature Gauge 1 Pole FI Type Connector, Tan/Brown, 318i/is/iC (1991), 325/e/es/i/is/iC/iX (1984-91), M3 (1987-91)

^ That's for my dash gauge?

They don't have any others listed for the DME on PP. Real OEM shows the sensors but doesn't list them for some reason. 1988 325iS (3/88)
