Starts, but doesn't stay on without gas

Starts, but doesn't stay on unless you constantly give it gas.

What could the problem be? The fuel pump wasn't displacing the correct amount of fuel when I ran the 30sec test, so I bought a new one. Now my displacement is correct ( fuel pressure gauge wasn't working, so I just used that test) now, but I still have the same problem.

    Fuel pump-ok
    FPR-ok
    Coolant sensor-ok
CPS-ok (due to there being fuel?)
    Battery-ok
    Voltage regulator-ok

-Could it be from a loose oil filter? There is a leak around that area, so I suspect that. I don't have the correct adjustment tool handy..
-Could this be from a worn alternator?
    -Anything else it could be?

    Intake leak, bad AFM

Remove every hose associated with the intake and replace any that have cracks. Also use carb cleaner to check for leaks at the intake manifold gasket and injector seals. Replace the dipstick o-rings and oil filler cap and use a vacuum pump and gauge to check for leaks in the brake booster. Finally use the information on http://frwilk.com/944dme/afm.htm to see if the AFM is at fault, and possibly repair it.

In the bentley it says to test between 1 and 3 (1 being the far right / 4 being the far left) - I got 3450 which is too much resistance( 2200/2700 is in spec)

On the website it says test between 1 and 4- I got 2900 which is just out of spec for 68 degrees

          Which one is right?
Its for an AFM out of a 89 325i

Regardless, it is out of spec for both..pretty sure it is the AFM at fault

Well, I just recieved my replacement AFM.

In the bentley it says to test between 1 and 3 (1 being the far right / 4 being the far left) - I got 3100 which is too much resistance( 2200/2700 is in spec)

However, it runs in spec if I go by that online websites directions.. the site is down right now, I just went by what I posted above.

I would just throw it in and see if it works, however this damn AFM doesn't have any studs to bolt to the airbox. I'll need to pick up some bolts that will do the job....

              Great!

You can try the new AFM without having it bolted up to the air box.

I had this problem after putting my intake elbow back on one day. Confused the shit out of me. Would start, idle like shit, and then die about 5 seconds later. Turned out the hose from the elbow was cracked and only about half way on. Shoved it back on, problem solved.

the way my symptoms occured, I doubt its a vacumn leak. It was checked by a mechanic a few months ago, and I did a light inspection when all this started happening.

I picked up the correct bolts and will be trying it out after class.

I remember the website stating the information was for early AFM's, so I'm doubtful my new unit is working correctly. We'll see....

Checked the AFM again, deff is out of spec per the Bentley.
Tested it out on the car just in case, same situation.
