If I take the head off do I have to do a TB?

I'm replacing the head on my seta motor with an 885 "i" head. I've never taken a head off or done a TB before so I wanted to know what parts I should get. I know that the TB was done recently and probably doesn't have to be replaced. Is there a way to slip the TB off the teeth of the crank without having to replace everything? Anyone done this before? help?!

...does TB not mean Throttle Body? What?

The standard advice is never to reuse a timing belt. That said, I've reused a belt that only had a couple of hundred miles on it. But I wouldn't reuse a belt that had a thou or more. The belt and tensioner are cheap, so it isn't worth the risk.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Ooooh, timing belt. Yeah, you usually don't want to reuse those. In any case, there is a casting mark on the head that lines up with a mark on the crank wheel to get the timing right. I'm not sure what position the crankshaft has to be in for that to be right, though.

If your gonna open it up, replace it. The one time you don't is the one time it will leave you stranded.

everyone is going to tell you to replace it etc. Since you are already there, but... if its only like 5000 miles before, or even 10k. Dont bother, do it next time. If its halfway near service time? I would even let it go. Sensible service is recommended, just changing stuff to change stuff is just a waste of money.

besides, why do you need to take the anything off? you can slide the belt off from the top and just reaplce the head and put it back on, yo udont ahve to touch anything? I'm not sure why you are trying to remove the belt. at all.

That's really all I wanted to know. If I can just slide it off and put it back on I'm golden I just didn't know if that would mess up the timing because the belt would be loose.

Yeah, but make sure the cam is in the same position as that of the head you take off.

Are people really this cheap? What's a timing belt cost, $15?

                  Not even, check it out:

Just replace it. It's silly not to if you are going to be in there anyway.

replace it. there is no reason to risk it when the belt is so cheap and the damage that can be done being so major.
