    -CAUTION, LIFE STORY-

So, today at lunch, I decided to hurry to McDonalds because I need to gain weight. I drove five miles from my school to there, everything was fine. I eat my disgusting over priced food, get in my car, it starts REAL slow like it has a dead battery, which I don't see how it could. I notice all my warning lights are on, so what I usually do is turn it off and restart it. (also, this time it ran at like 300 rpm)... So I turned it off, tried to restart it, my RPM gage (SP? haha!) is popping off the pin at 0 up to about 50, my fuel gage is popping 1/16" much lower than it really should be, and all I hear is clicks really fast. I think it's the starter, but I never took auto shop, and only know limited stuff about this car. I've worked on it before, and am hoping I can work on this now, anyone have some input?

Sounds exactly like a dead battery...

If you just replaced the battery in December, your alternator could be on its way out or you could have a power drain somewhere.

Are your battery terminals tight and making full contact with the posts on the battery?

I replaced my old battery because the power drain was my subs, and it was old. I don't have subs here in the cold weather, so what could it be? I got it jumped and took it for a 30 mile drive on the highway, then it stumbled and died in the driveway, but started right back up. We'll see tomorrow. The battery is still under warranty if I can find the receipt.

thanks a lot for the help, guys.

Here's my first post. How exciting!

Autozone will test your alternator, starter, and battery for free. Might be a good option if you lack a multimeter or skills :D

If the alternator was dead, only the battery light would come on. When you turn it to the on position, what lights are on?

definitely dead battery and sounds like a bad alternator.

If it is your alternator, the nice thing is that the only thing to replace is the brushes, that is about a $10 job, and about 10 minutes, if you have smaller hands. No need to replace the whole thing. Might be worth doing, just to have that out of the way.

First check all of your battery connections...a loose battery terminal or connection on the starter will give you these same symtoms. Make sure that before you check the ones on the starter that you remove the positive terminal from the battery, just so you wont risk shorting anything out with a wrench while fiddling with the terminals on the starter.
