    Which CPS type?

The car is an 87 325is built 4/87. I have the engine out doing a rebuild.

I ordered a new CPS since the old one had brittle wires that had been chafed down pretty bad. I had it taped up.

Anyway, when I went to Pelican parts to order the correct part, they show a picture of a sensor with the wire coming straight in from the back and no connector plug on the other end. Just bare wires. This is the part number I got off of realoem. 12521279695.

The one I have on the car looks like this:

Anyway, now I need to figure out if Pelican has the wrong picture or not. They sent me an email saying that the CPS for my car has always come without the connector plug like the first picture.

So, did somebody change something on the car, or what? I am at a bit of a loss. It's not a huge deal, but if anybody has any specific knowledge, I would appreciate it.

EDIT: OK, now I see that the first part isn't the CPS. It is something else that I don't think I have on my car.
Anybody got a part number for the CPS?

Somebody at Pelican is confused. A new CPS for your car will look exactly like the one in bottom picture. Given the VIN, your dealer can get the correct part.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks, it is me that is confused. I pulled the wrong part off of realoem. That first one is some other sensor... I don't know what.

Anyway, now I need to find the P/N for the CPS. I can't seem to find the dumbthing on realoem.

I was just looking for the same thing. I tried BMA, Pelican, BavAuto, Bimmer specialist, and Paragon to find one that isn't a cheap plastic part, but to no avail. Sure, they say the plastic CPS meets all factory specs, but for something THAT important, I'll only use Bosch. I don't trust the cheap replacements to locate exactly right in the bracket. Fortunately, I have a parts hookup with the local dealer, so I was able to get a real Bosch sensor.

+1 I've replace many couple plastic ones that failed within a year or two. I would stick with Bosch only.

So, interestingly, the part that Jim linked in (12141720852), is the same CPS part shown for post 9/87 cars on this page http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...05&hg=11&fg=10.

12141720852 is not shown as being used on the pre 9/97 cars at all in the Pelican parts list or on Bav Auto. I had seen that part in realoem, but since the diagram shows it going to the wrong place, it didn't seem right. I guess the old location was back on the flywheel and that is what they are showing.

Anyway, I'll get the order squared away with Pelican. Thanks for the help.

12141720852 is the CPS for all M20B25 engines from 11/86 to the end of production.
