    oil in the intake mani?

Ok so this car, 86 325e, has oil in the intake manifold. I was told that it was a crank case ventalation problem that was not allowing pressure to escape and thus pushing the oil up past the rings and into the intake? looking for info, truth, solutions, and quickly. Thanks

if its never been cleaned out it will have a large amount of residue

So i should take off the manifold and clean it as well as the boot to remove the oil residue.... but what about the oil coming into the manifold? Is it as simple as new rings? Or is there a bigger problem?

lots of blowby (bad rings) is most likely the cause, but a good cleaning/oil change/ seafoam treatment might all but alleviate the problem

As simple as new rings? That isn't simple... well, I suppose the answer is simple. Changing them out is another thing entirely.

It is very common for there to be oil buildup in the manifold. It doesn't always indicate blowby. If it happens quickly or there is a lot of it, then maybe it is blowby. Otherwise just clean it up and keep an eye on it. If it oils right back up, then you might have a problem. If you notice, there is the valve cover breather hose that goes from the valve cover to the throttle body. Over time, this setup will always allow some oil into the intake. You can't really avoid it (without a separator of some kind... anybody know of a good one?)

If the dipstick tube and things like that aren't sealing this will happen too even if the engine is good. Allows the air to draw through rather than just hold the case pressure down kind of like a siphon type mist bottle.

There are two paths for oil to reach the intake. One is from the crankcase and is the result of excessive blowby from worn or stuck rings. The other path is the result of leaking valve seals. A compression and leak down test will pretty quickly tell whether the oil is from a ring or valve seal issue.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Same thing happened with my 325e. It was leaking clear down into the AFM. Turns out it was the vacuum line that goes from the valve cover to the throttle body. Rather than fix it right, I ran my own hose fitted with an oil catch can. My TB and intake are now dry as a bone.
