Reference Sensor and Speed Sensor? HELP PLEASE. (PICS)

Ok, after ruling out alot of things i decide to grab the manual an ohm out the speed sensor-sensor side and the reference sensor and on pins 1-2 of the Ref sensor i got nothing.. switched to pins 3 and 2 or 1 and got around 1049 or something like that... and on the speed sensor i couldnt get a ohm reading for the life of me (assumed the 2 were bad right?) so i pulled both on the drivers side of the transmission... I dont think this is the original trans for a 86 Es because both sensors are located on the drivers side? is the correct? I have no clue. Ok.. now my problem.. im going to order new ones, speed & reference sensor, i really want to doublecheck these are the right locations. Which one goes in the top? Which one is below that?

ALSO- The bottom sensor i pulled off has a bunch of dirt/metal/stuck to the magnet of the sensor? Is the normal???

    Here are pics

Yeah, that's right, they're both on the right side. As far as the sensor goes it doesn't matter because they're the same part number, it's which plug you hook it to that matters. The reference sensor should be the bottom hole, which goes to the gray plug, the speed sensor is the top hole, black plug. If you're going to get new ones check out www.pelicanparts.com that's where I got mine, cheapest I found. The dirt and metal I would think would be common depending on your milage, mine were a little dirt. If there's metal on them then they probably wouldn't work right because they use the magnet to sense the metal tab on you flywheel to time your spark and fuel. But that shouldn't effect the resistence of the sensor.

Thank you Sir! Appreciate the advice. Im wondering about the broken o ring on one of the sensors.. i wonder if i clean the dirt/metal off the top and stick it back in if it will work right?.. but then again, i didnt get the right reading from ohm-ing them out... time to buy new ones! Thanks.

Go ahead and wipe them off and try putting them in just to see what happens, probably nothing but who knows. Something else could have gone wrong while you were trying to measure the resistence. Worth a shot, not like it's a hard job...good luck!

the placement on the bell housing does matter with the sensors, the ref sensor goes on the bottom and goes connected to the grey plug behind or around the starter motor.. make sure your fly wheel(if auto trans) has the magnets in between the block and the torq conv..right on the flywheel

if you arent getting any resistance that means they are bad. just make sure when you order them and they arrive at home add a zip tie to each end of one of the cables to mark it as the reference sensor, that way if you ever get back under there again when you read the bentley it will make sense. one came with a zip ties from the factory.

both mine were dirty but read correctly so i cleaned them at put them back in. are you still not getting spark or something?

replace them then check battery cable fuse in trunk then look at the ECU
