    Another No Start Thread...

Alright, my girlfriend and I picked up a car for our project car. The car has a no start issue. I have an extra coil, extra ECU and extra crank position sensor. When I jump the fuel relay fuel sprays and it's not old gas either.

So I'm not getting spark, and the fuel pump isn't kicking on. Anybody know what I can check? I figured it was the cps, but it's still not getting spark from the coil. This is driving me insane.

    The Fix: Fusible link.
Location: about 6inches from the positive terminal of the battery. Cut the shrink wrap. It's on the little wire.

Check the cps connector and the spark sensor connector located under the diagnostic port. Try reversing the connectors. They are interchangeable and sometimes get reversed by mistake. It does not damage them to hook them up wrong. It just makes the car not start. It's worth a try.

Actually I tried that. I will try it again with the new cps sensor.

Did you make sure the fuel pump relay is kicking on?

        Does the DME have power?

No and No. I didn't think to check if the DME was getting power. For some reason I kept thinking it was a DME problem because it was like I wasn't getting any response. A few things I noticed was that the check engine light wasn't coming on, and the rpm gauge isn't jumping at all. I know in some cars when it has a crank/no start problem the tach needle will kick up a bit.

I'll check to see if the fuel pump relay is kicking on tomorrow and if the DME has power.

BTW, when does the fuel pump relay get power? At crank or at key on?

Also, where exactly is the fusible link located?

It's 2:30am, I got work at 7:30. After looking at some wiring diagrams, I decided to pull my head out of my ass and actually check some shit. I will have to say that I never got into my happy place ever since I started working on this car because I always had a distraction. I think I found the problem :) I chased some wires and in conclusion the fusible link is broken. I never thought to check it because I was getting power everywhere else. Haha, BMW fooled me. Dammit. 2 days of working on the car. Fuck.

Oh, anyways, the CPS sensor was messed up anyways because the wire was cut. So I don't feel all so bad.

I know there's a fusable link in the trunk, running off the power cable on the battery. Also check the #2 relay, it's right next to the fuel pump relay, it powers the DME, and the the fuel pump relay also.

When you turn the key on is does the CEL light turn on? Also, does the ICV, Main relay and fuel pump click?

If not, check if there is power going to the power distribution block, on the fire wall near the pass. strut. There are 2 wires that run off one of the studs. If it's not getting power there, but instead you're getting a ground your problem is in the fusible link (located about 6" away from the positive terminal of the battery).
