    engine coolant leak problems

    1987 325es with 153,000 miles.

so i have a coolant leak problem. and am struggling to find where it is coming from. so far i have checked the heater hoses and water pump for leaks in the engine compartment. its leaking onto the transmission and dripping about mid seat underneath. it drips pretty fast when the car is running.

anyone got any input on what i can do to try and solve this?
i searched the forums and nothing seemed to sound like it fit my problem.

    thanks

My best guess would be the coolant hose or fitting at the back of the cylinder head. This is the outlet side to the heater.

so i checked the fitting where the hoses lead into the firewall. and there was no leak that i could notice on them. i kind have a feeling its in the firewall or something and leaking down. if it stops raining i will try to get some pictures to post up.

anyone have a diagram that would possibly help show where i should be looking at?

If it's not the hoses it's probably the heater core.

Don't panic, it's not the bad.

There is a pretty good thread in the DIY section.

thanks ill check the DIY out.

if its the heater core like you suggested, would coolant drip underneath the car still?

Yes, it will leak out of the plenum drains.

If the heater control valve leaks it will usually run into the drivers foot well.
