    The great mysterious gearbox geyser-o-fluids

I wish this iX of mine were a manual for a variety of reasons, but most recently because It’s decided that, if I drive it regularly, it only barely drips just a bit of atf. However, when I’m parked it for a couple weeks, it decided it’d be hi-lar-i-ous to just purge a puddle that’s roughly the footprint of the entire car.

I know that plugged vent leaks can occur with operation but whether it’s coming from there or from the joining point of the tail to the transfer case, I can’t tell. I can’t conceive of how it could slip out in such high volume when it never showed itself when I was driving it regularly. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

That has to be a bad seal somewhere that just presented at an inconvenient time. Remember, ATF spreads out like the super light oil it is, but to make that sort of stain it would need to be a couple of pints at minimum.

Whatever the issue, clean the trans of fresh residue and put a pan under the bell housing, and another pan under the output, then add fluid without driving it to find the end that has your leak.

⬆️ Great plan, I’ll do just that! Hoping not bellhousing, as I don’t want to drop this whale of a gearbox. Too bad swap materials are just so hard to find, that’d make it all worth it. $1500 + for just the gearbox – and that’s on the cheap side and only IF you can find one!
