Engine sat without valve cover or oil pan..

Have a spare motor on a stand in my garage that has sat for ~8 months without a valve cover or an oil pan. Before putting it back into service, would you do anything as a result of that?

Depends on how clean your garage was in that time/what position the engine was sitting in on the stand, so you'll have to assess the level of gunk in the oil film on the engine. If it were my garage, I'd probably run the vacuum over it, and hit it with carb cleaner while upside down then call it a day.

Clean it up, wipe the cylinders down with an oil soaked rag, turn it over by had a few revolutions, again wiping the cylinders with oil. Once in the car, without the spark plugs, crank it to get the oil into the bearings and head before trying to start it.
