    After Engine rebuild question!!

I have rebuilt my m20 but i had to travel and stopped assembly forgot to cover the oil filter inlet and car sat in dirt parking for month and now i am afraid to complete assembly and start it dirt may have got in the engine through the oil filter inlet.
Any ideas? What should do before start up?

I guess it depends on how dirty the parking lot was, and if you saw a lot of air movement/dust that might have got up and under the car and into the engine. If it was my car and I didn't wan't to do another full teardown, I would probably try and wipe around the oil filter inlet with an oily rag and see if any dirt was actually in there - if there is a bunch then a tear-down and proper cleaning may be in order. If not... maybe prime the pump for a bit longer than normally while manually turning the engine over by hand a bit to ensure oil has flushed through everything.

I think the only way to really be sure though is stripping things down and pulling the galley plugs.

Thank jeh but i was thinking of removing the valve cover and pour down 2 liters of new oil and drain them .is that going to help? It is not that dirt moving plus it is a small hole .

Tough situation. The oil poured from the head will drain back down through the drain back holes and not get into the pump and filter area. I wonder if there is a way to somehow get oil under pressure through the filter holes to flush out the pump and passages. Then change the oil?????

Thanks all ..I think i am going to just prime the system so all dirt goes to filter and will change oil and filter right after break in 20 miles. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
