    Motronic M30b35 flywheel weight?

Any idea how much the stock one weighs, and how much it can be shaved (safely) to reduce the weight?

The later version off my donor was the dual mass unit - over 30 lbs IIRC

How rare are the lighter weight flywheels from an e28 533i, and what do they weigh? What is the going price if I can find one?

533 flywheels are around 15 pounds. Compared to around 22-23 for the stock e28 flywheel. Finding one is the real trick. Another option (the one I opted for) was to send it out and have it surfaced and lightened. Cost me $200 total including shipping. Weight went down to around 16-17 pounds. I forgot to take pictures before I put the whole thing together but they did a great job.

My 533i flywheel + resurface + lightening+shipping was $185 total. Hope that helps.

Call your local machine shop. We used one where I used to work that would lighten and resurface for under $100. They brought a 325e single mass flywheel down to 13lb IIRC.
