Who even makes one with a plastic impeller? I have heard of M50s having plastic, but I've never seen anything but metal on an M30. Did they start that shit in the 90's or something?

Blows my mind but all of the OEM water pumps I have used over the past little while have come polycarbonate impellers.

It's not so much that they are bad as that when the bearing goes they blow up rather than dig into the case and make noise like the metal ones do.

Having said that, I prefer steel.

Apparently, most of them have 2 options ( plastic & metal) when you buy it online ( look at your online bmw parts seller ).

          I found this local :http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductD...ype=54&PTSet=A

          Brand: Cardone
          Part number: A5583311

          What do you think ?

Thats just really odd. I have never seen a plastic option at autohausaz, bmp, bavauto, fcp groton, etc. Don't even waste your time with those, and you may be better off skipping "Orielly Auto Parts" as well.
