Needless to say I am very interested in seeing some actual verified results on this subject. :)
Let me dig up the info, I know for a fact that the m30 weighs more than the m/s5x motors.

I believe that the S50 is lighter than the M30 but it only puts out 240 hp which is very close to Chipped M30 stats and the M30 has more tq....
The S52 is still only 240 but is heavier than the M30 and the S54 is 320+ and even heavier.
A chipped and cammed M30 will run with an S38 M5 and will beat it stop light to stop light, it is on the long straight of a track that the S38 will pass it...
Here's a link to some engine weights with pics...
You will notice that the US S50 is listed with the M50's as they are basically massaged M50's...
The S50 shown is the Euro S50/52 and it numbers...
all but the US S50 are heavier than an M30....
The S52 is listed but with the Euro Numbers....

a nice m30 and a 3;73 are really hard to beat stop light to stop light...

S52's suffer from the money shifts too, don't kid yourself....

Grenading any ///M engine is $$$, ask me how I know...

I will take the bullet proof M30 all day but that is just me...

I will buy another ///M car one day cuz you just can't beat the sound of an S38 winding out...

Euro S50s are heavier due to dual vanos, ITBs, headers, etc. Find the weight of a US one. But looks like it's not that much of a difference between the 2.

Hmmmmm...... a nice ball bearing turbo m30 would be bad ass.....

Any blower kits available for the m30???

this is great info and im glad actual numbers are finally being tossed around.

also i have been running a 3.73s as of late, coming from a 2.93s and will be installing a 3.25s as soon as i find the time. The m30 is just so much more fun with the longer gears

e30polak - Well, I only can quote what is posted. Did you find anything you were going to dig something up?

I'll have the actual weight of the complete m30b35 with and without g260/6 pretty soon.

              RickSloan - that's what I plan on using, currently have s3.73 but might have a 3.25 or 3.4x in case I don't like a 3.73.

Not that I know of. TCD is really the only FI distributor that offers a setup for the m30. Carrtech used to have a twin turbo setup, but they only sell manifolds now (which they are selling for $500!).

ugh, I have the 2.93 and am not looking forward to the laggy-ness of it. Was it that bad?

                  soon ;)

and the 2.93s wasnt really laggy, i liked it alot and would go back if i didnt have the 3.25s gears around. I feel like the longer gears suit the power curve of the m30 much better, it "feels" faster to me. I tought by switching to the 3.73 i would be faster, but really its just less fun

I hear you. Finding the perfect gearing for a motor, really changes its capabilities.

When I first drove my s52 swap with the 4.10 oped diff, 1st gear was useless! However, 2nd-5th pulled like a fucking freight train!

I quickly switched to the 3.25 diff, because it was built as my DD. It didn't pull as hard in 2nd through 5th anymore, but I finally had a 1st gear! The car finally had usable power in every gear.

After driving the car around for almost 2 years as a DD, I wanted shorter, torquier gears. I found a 3.46, which made the car much more fun to drive in any gear! I will never switch to any other gear ratio, it really is the perfect geariing! :woowoo:

I was running a s3.25 with my m30. It really is a good ratio for the m30. It would still spin first but I could do 100 in 3rd and cruise along at low rpm's on the highway.

With that said though, I would love to try a 3.46

my issue with the 3.73 is whe i wanted to pull from 75-80 on the highway to say 100 i was in a shitty place... no 3rd left and at the low end of 4th...

                            hows your motor anyway?

Can anyone throw in some number figures on both (cost to swap)? I know it depends on whose doing it but just F.Y.I?
