    What harness do I have?

Not much luck in my porcupine thread, so I'll ask it with a more complementary title. I picked up a 90% finished M30 E30 and I have no idea what harness it's running. This normally wouldnt be a problem but the tach and speedo aren't working and I don't know what diagram to go off of. What pictures/info would I need to supply to yall to give me a definitive answer?

What car/year is the engine from? Check by the VIN against realoem.com Otherwise take pictures of the area near the intake manifold/head and the end of the harness (plug) itself.

does it have a plastic cover over the injectors? If so, it rules out it being an e30 harness - for the most part. The m30 harness is a one piece design. It does not connect under the intake with a round plug like the m20 harness does. That should get you started

The engine is from an 87 535, the body is a 91 318i. The injector plugs are separate and cream colored, they have the metal snap wire holding them on. Pictures of the car and engine bay are here:

Thanks for the input guys. I'd check the fuse connection but it's raining currently.

So you have a B34 then. You might have an E30 harness

This is what an E32/E34 M30B35 harness looks like:

and it's plug looks like this

That looks to me like a b34 harness, if you check out the diagnostic plug. It's probably the stock engine harness. IIRC most if not all the late e30's have the big ass goofy round plug like the b35 in the pic above. Whereas the b32 and b34 have the diagnostic plug that fits in that little hole in the intake manifold support.

Plus w/ the tape around the c101 it looks like it's been rewired, which wouldn't be necessary on a b35 or late e30 harness. At least that's what it looks like.

Edit: This is the pic I was looking at:

              No, look again. In the picture I posted that's a 25 pin x20, not a 20 pin as you'll find on e30s.

You're talking about the c101 right? I'm talking about the diagnostic plug, as in the top plug in your bottom picture.

If you look at his pic the diagnostic is on the right hand side intake manifold support, it's a little 13 pin thing.

Yeah, sorry I was talking about the c101 end.
