    m30 into 318i

    have an 84 318i.

    I am picking up a 86 535i 5speed. i believe that to have a getrag 260 or 265? and and m30b34.

    i understand most of the swap. just not the ignition and electrical part of it. i have all the parts from the 535i i can use i have mounts and brakets from joe funk. tranny mounts. gasket set. what else em i gonna need??? anything?? and how do i do thise swap ive been reading and tryig to understand this. but it isnt 100% cuz I have a 318 no an 325. http://www.jaredsquires.com/ndp/335i/m30/


    any coments or help id love. also i plan on just swapping the motor first then working on turboing it. not sure how to go about the manifold or the oil lines??? ;/

    Do all of the preventative/scheduled maintenance that you can. Timing chain guide, water pump, et cetera. You don't want to pull your engine for little things later.

    In addition to what you have, you'll need an e34 m30 oil pan (and pickup) to clear the e30 subframe. I have one for sale in this subforum.

    You'll also need an exhaust solution.
    My 1988 535is had a g265 in it, but I'm not sure about the 1986. Either would need its own driveshaft solution.

    Once it comes time to wire things up, search for pinouts... this forum is a goldmine for finding people who have done your swap before.
