That picture above is the driveshaft side.... the difference also is the large guibo driveshaft/m30 260 uses 12mm bolts.

Nice! It sure looks much bigger when it's side by side!

I am sticking with my 96mm guibo :)

I reckon the bigger sized guibo and flange is mainly due to the weight of the E28/E34/E32 carwhich has to be moved via this arrangement.

The heavier the car to move, the beefier the transmission guibo/flange/shaft has to be in order to cope with the amount of torque required to move it all...

An E30 325i will hardly be over 1300KGS, whereas a E34 535i will not be less than 1620KGS. Dont even want to think about the E32...

              What do you think ?

That flange came way before the e34 and e32. The logic
you are using seems like you are just trying to trick yourself into
thinking "it's ok, it should be ok". It was even used in the e30.

I wouldn't switch to the smaller flange, but if you have no choice, then you have no choice.
Why not use a m10 tranny?
Why would you not use it since goodandtight made like 400hp
                in his m10.

                  Just being logic, right ?

It is not gonna break with the M30 torque.

                  It is easy.

I will use that when I swap.

I am not scared swapping the shafts and all, just I am pretty sure there is no risk at all...

                  Cheers / Pierre

I'm just finishing my swap and am using the stock 325is drive shaft from my 87. I changed over the flange and with the adjustability of the splines it fits fine. I have no worries of it breaking. Guys running forced induction on their M20 will have way more torque running through it than I will. Mine will stay NA. Also, the guibo is made to be the weak point if there a lot of torgue. Ask any E39 M5 owner that uses the car right - guibos are a regular maintenance items.

Also, I haven't seen a lot of BMW driveshafts but mine on the E30 was a replacement and has the center spline section just behind the center u joints. My M5 drive shaft, the 91 535i drave shaft, and my 73 2002 drive shafts are not the same design. They all have the big bolt that is in the center u-joint area to seperate the two halves.

                      I can take pics later.
