All you guys doing swaps. I need an M10 engine harness.

I have an 85 318 that has a problem with the plug on the ECU. I want to replace the engine harness to resolve the problem..

All you guys doing swaps surely have one laying around..

    LMK please and Thanks...

Chances are replacement harness will have issues as well, 84-85 318i harness is f-ing older than dirt. When I removed mine, I found a couple issues with broken wires at the ICV computer that probably attributed to high idle.

Well, to be honest I'll have one pretty soon, but a connector or two will be chopped off so I'm not sure if you'd want it or not. You can always splice your connectors on there but probably not ideal. Good luck finding one

Andrew - you can remove it w/o cutting any connectors off, it's pretty easy actually. Most of it is self contained on the engine, and it unplugs from everything.

No no, hah I know how to take the wiring harness off, I mean I'll be using the fusebox connector from the M10 harness on the M30 harness right?

I need to read your thread more carefully, specifically the wiring page.

Yeah, or send your harness to Steve and grab a harness connector from a parts car ;)

            2 options here:

            - make an adapter to go from the chassis harness to your engine harness
            - cut the fusebox end of the harness and splice one from your e28 to it.

I believe your engine harness is different from the one I used, it might look similar to the early e30 rectangular connector but not exactly the same with more or less pins.... i am pretty sure it won't have a round x20.

You'll have to look and see.

The issue we are having is with the plug on the ecu end. There is something losing connection in that plug and causing many issues.. When it acts up you can wiggle he ecu plug and it will quit.. Momentarily.

At the very least that plug will have to be spliced on but it seems easier to swap the whole harness..

It's the most frustrating thing to deal with...

Let me know if you can't find a harness, I'll go slice the end of a parts car for ya.

Thanks Man, I know there are some just laying around from swaps and it's just finding the guy that has one...

If it turns out I have to splice a plug onto the harness I guess that's the way we go.

Oh you only need the ECU harness pigtail? That I will definitely have. The thing is, It could be roughly a month before I can cut it and am ready for the swap as this car is my "drive 'til it drops" daily driver currently.

Actually I would love to find and intact harness.. All those splices will be a weak point..

But if the plug is all I find It will have to work...

Do you know what the problem is with your harness? I didn't bother looking at my old m10 harness and tossed it. But if the ECU plug can be opened and it probably can, if you need help resoldering the wires to it I can help you with that if you want to mail it to me. No cost, you'll just have to cover shipping both ways.

It's actually my car; TN325i has been graciously helping me find a harness for it. The symptoms were intermittent at first; it would be doing fine then suddenly cut out and/or die. A mild slap on the ECU and it would be running again. It has gotten progressively worse and the car is now undrivable. It will start and idle fine but as soon as the TPS opens it dies. Slight side pressure on the wires/plug at the ECU and it will run but begin cutting out at 2000-2500. I'm almost certain it's got to be a poor crimp or broken wire at the ECU plug but I have yet to isolate exactly which; this leads to the next problem.

Does anyone know how to get the $%&^$ ECU plug terminals out without destroying them? I have tried every combination I could think of without success. If I can get them loose I feel certain I can fix it.

I forgot; we've tried 3 ECU's so I think it's got to be in the plug.

                              Thanks for your help guys.
