    Lambda control 2

Got a check engine light that just comes on erratically sometimes on, and the car runs like crap, sounding like it has a wicked cam when idling, and sometimes it runs perfectly normal. My understanding of the Lambda control 2 is that it is usually either a vacuum leak, or an o2 sensor. When I took the car in to get the exhaust fabbed up the guy said it looks like the o2 sensor is going bad. Any help, or expert advice before I dive into this?

It's not recommended to drive your car around without the o2 sensor plugged in, it will run rich all the time and will eventually foul your catalytic converter.

In saying that, try unplugging your o2 sensor, and go for a spin around the block, if it runs fine when at operating temp with the o2 disconnected it's more than likely the problem.

But don't drive around for 12 months without it.

I'll give that a shot. Hope it's not a problem I have to spend a ton of time tracking down, would rather have it fixed in a hurry.

Another thing to note is that if your O2 sensor is bad you don't necessarily have to buy the BMW part. A couple of guys over on mye28 used off the shelf Bosch sensors from Autozone and reported that it works fine. Some wiring required though.

Maybe you can do that over there, but here we can get a $2500 fine for removing an emission control device :(

Figured it out, vacuum hose had popped off.
