Any *tricks* to getting this thing in Position III ?

I beat the firewall in mostly where the back of the head would sit, probably an inch at most... I can't seem to get to my e30.de mounts' position 3 - it seems like I have firewall and tranny tunnel clearance issues. My rubber e30 mounts are already in place on the subframe... Do I just need to beat the CRAP out of the firewall AND tranny tunnel to get this thing to sit back there, or are there finesse solutions (shaving the stud on the motor mount, precompressing them, tilting the engine a certain way) that would help too?

Yeah, will have to beat it some more as is it's a tight fit even in position II. B34 or B35?

Usually it helps to have put in and taken out the engine and tranny 4 or 5 times to build up the anger to beat the firewall in a sufficient amount.

B35, 260/6. I got some m30 rage built up, alright. The sheet metal on the firewall pockets out pretty good with a ball peen hammer, but I'm guessing the tranny tunnel takes an honest to goodness sledge. Do you need to beat that part *UP* at all, or just back? My head and bell housing seem to interfere between positions 2 and 3.

Consensus seems to be to pound the crap out of it...can do!

Definitely had to youtube that. I'm a pretty big guy (6'3" 250 pretty lean) - will a 2 lb hammer be sufficient or will I need something like an 8lb maul (I have both).

I was trying to avoid having a firewall like Good and Tight's (he has a B34), but right now the M30 is Bad and Tight :(

The top bolt area on the bellhousing is a clearance issue as well- You need to smash it up a bit.

Ball peen hammer is for making shoes, use a 10lb sledge. The tunnel needs to be beat upward and back to clear tranny and starter. I don't know how far back position III is so you are going to have to pull the engine and tranny in and out a few times.

III must be far back cause isnt the b35 supposed to fit with no fire wall mods? I wanna see a pick of your cap to rad clearence when your done.

But yes you need a real hammer i used a snap on dead blow

"pos 3" hits on the heater hose on the back.
B35 doesn't have one of those.
