    b35 harness length / dme location / dme noise

    How many of you were able to mount the dme in the stock e30 location?

    I couldn't, so I picked up an e34/e32 dme/relay box thinking it would fit in the front battery location but it won't. So I either have to make a box for the relays/dme OR extend wires.

    I have a spare m30b35 5speed harness that I am going to install, it has the good plastic covers, and I'll have more clearance with the 5speed TPS vs. Auto. I am wondering if I should bother extending the wires on the DME side (it's not too bad, but will take probably an hour or so to do) since it seems that 179 DME's are on the LOUD side with their internal relay clicking..

    So is your dme installed in the stock location or under the hood?
    How loud is your DME? I can certanly hear it in the glovebox.

    i have mine in the stock location but its not happy, the wires are tight and the relays are kinda hanging... i need to fix it

      I've got an auto E34 (M50) harness and it's definitely not reaching the stock location. I never even thought of putting it in the engine bay.

        I wanted it to be in the engine bay, just like how they are in e32/e34 cars...but that box is too big and will take too much work to modify (cut/weld etc). I might just see if I can find some kind of other box instead?

        I am going to hate life if I extend 60+ wires on the DME side and then still get tired of the dme ticking...

          I have mine in the stock location... using e32 harness. Kinda stretched but reaches fine.

            Did you put the relays inside the car? What did you do to plug the hole where the wiring goes through the firewall?

              Dude, I'm an electrical engineer and I refuse to extend that many fucking wires. I'll ziptie the DME in the damn engine bay if I have to (wait, I forgot, the 403 doesn't have any bolt holes ).

                I mounted my DME in the stock location and mounted all the relays where the battery would be on an early model car. Running a b34 for the record.

                    I cant hear anything. THe relays are just hanging in the glove box but the dme mounts right up for me.

                        I've tried many DME's and they all make noise. If you open the glovebox and hold the DME in your hands you can tell it's not the valve/engine noise you are hearing..... maybe I am just too picky..

                          My DME is located in the stock area above the glovebox. the wires needed some slight stretching, but it works. I didn't notice that it was loud at all with any clicking.

                          But with a stock E32 engine wiring harness it is possible.

                              Use a E30 2.5 0r 2.0 wiring harness you will have to make a few mods like pulling the airflow meter wires out and instead of running the oilpressure sensor wire down to the bottom oil prtessure wire is on the back of the head on a 3.5 and you have to change the loop for the post on the alternator.
