M5 Headgasket + ARP Head Studs. Anything else?

    I'm keeping the M30. :)

This time I'm doing a full cooling overhaul, down to the headgasket. While I am replacing it, anything else I should look into?

    Appreciate it

Make sure to check if the gasket coolant passages are port matched to the block/head - they're often not.

Are you planning on going FI in the future?

I would probably at least look into o-ringing the block if you're looking to push over 1bar.

It's cheap and more cost effective than MLS. The thicker .140 HG is recommended by the creator of Big Red, and Paul Burke recommends Goetze HGs. I'm not sure what the marginal advantage is in the M5 gasket - I know the Okinawan 535i build on bf.c used one at very high power levels.

The M5 headgasket was Patrick (e34biturbo)'s suggestion. He constantly pushes 600whp on his M30s, so I'm pretty sure his opinion is solid on that :)

I ordered it all up already. I hope to have this car back on the road soon.

That's interesting - I must have read an old post. I suppose he is not o-ringed either, then?

I would listen to pat He has a lot of credit in my book some really good projects.
I would also use HRP Head studs I blew my head gasket at 10 psi in my car went m5 gasket W/ARP’s and it held just fine.

So no o-ringing of the block with the M5 HG? What makes the M5 gasket more stable under boost? Is it a better design? I was thinking of o-ringing and using stock gasket an ARP studs. Plan is no more then 15psi, well we will see.

                Thanks

I just got the M5 HG in the mail. Doesnt look like anything out of this world. I will take side by side pics when I actually replace the HG.

I looked on pelican this morning and the M5 gasket by itself is $170. That's almost 3x a stock and approaching the MLS. Think I will try o-ringing the block and using stock gasket since I won't be running crazy boost.
