My engine has been burning quite a bit of oil lately. I'd say probably a quart every 700 miles or so. Back of the car is blackened after only a day or two after each wash, but it only smokes at on/off thottle and start up. No smoke at all at high RPM's or constant throttle situations. All of the reading I've done suggests valve guide seals with these symptoms, but the fact that this engine only has ~35k miles on it and has been bored has me a little worried. What steps should I go to in diagnosing this? The procedure for valve seals doesn't seem too bad, but does require pulling the head so I want to have good idea that it is indeed the problem before I start ripping it apart.
