M62B46 was just offered as ALPINA B10 v8 or X5 4.6 and then you would need another oilpan,,,
a 4.6 engine is hard to find,, and i am sure that on the mainland in EU S62 is a fair option and they are offered in ebey.de MANY times and a lot of them

Yes the buying costs might be a bit less for S62 (especially if you buy complete car which you strip and sell) but maintenance on all M62's is noticeably cheaper than S62..
Anyways, best option for you would be to buy complete manual 540 so you'd have all the parts necessary and you'd sell the rest. That's the cheapest option..- E34 M5 (x 2) -
