    260/5 vs 260/6

Maybe I am missing something but what the hell is the difference? Is one better than the other?

    Thanks. :)

One bolts up to the m30, the other doesn't, I think. Different bellhousings?

As internet lore says the 260/6 is stronger.

You can tell by the fins it's a /6, the /5 has a waffle pattern.

But I am correct that they both are for the M30? The E30 260 is just called a 260, yes? I know that one doesn't work.

The M20 260/5 is specific to all M20B25/27 powered E28s, E30s, and E34s. The exception is the 265/5 which has a removable bellhousing and only found on the '82 528e.

The supposed best M30 tranny is the 265/5 which has a removable bellhousing and is found in the 85 535i/635csi/735i and '80-81 E12 528i. There is also the 260/6 found in the 86 and later M30 powered cars and the 260/5 which is found in the '83-84 533i/633csi/733i.

          HTH.

And all the trannys have different lengths, so you need to plan your drive shaft work according to what tranny you will use. M30 swaps are exhausting keeping track of all the details.

Thanks guys, damn I sound like such a noob!

So I have a friend who has what seems to be a 260/6 (Part# 260.0.1302.90).

Am I correct to assume this will work with the big guibo Eta driveshaft?

I always forget it. You know who knows (I think he discovered it) is Ely. RS4pro-whatever.

                  Anyone else remember?

Yup I remember. Any driveshaft from ETAs/Super ETAs built from 5/86-9/87 is the one you want combined with position III and the 260/6.

I've got Funk mounts, hoping it will still work.

                      Thanks fellas.

Joe's mounts are position 1.5 or something It's as far forward as it could go. But you might have enough splines on that shaft to work with?

Out in the field (junkyard) just disregard that only old eta cars had the
larger flex disc. I've found them on allot of 325is. My 1990 325i has one too.

Yet my 86 eta had the smaller flange. Hrm

B35 or B34? I specifically remember him telling me that B34 + Funk Mount could use a large guibo driveshaft with no modification.

I am using b35 with 260/6 out of an e34 with joe's mounts and big guibo e30 driveshaft...it works. but it's a tight fit in terms of length.
