    FFFFuuuu starter

So my starter went out today....and not in the most typical way either. I went to start the car after work and it turned over but didn't start the car. The starter motor kept running even after I pulled the key out WTF!?

I disconnected the battery, reconnected it and was able to start the car as usual and drove home from work. It's on it's last legs, tried to start it and it did the same thing but this time it took much longer for it to stop spinning on it's own.

Well, at least it's not too much of a bitch to switch out. Was it the one that came with the car, or a refurb unit?

Came with the motor, I'll put my spare in for now and buy a new/reman to have on hand. Good thing is block is threaded so taking it out won't be that bad, good timing too since I am changing one of the coolant hoses to the 325i one to run e30 expansion tank. It's like the bitch knew.

Yeah, I feel your pain man. I actually replaced my starter bolts with internal hex's to make it easier to get at them in the future.

Since when is a starter not a bitch to get out on an m30 swap? It took me like 2 hours to do it without taking off the intake manifold.

Dont know if this is your problem, but I had a 1983 thunderbird once with the same problem and it was caused by the bolts coming loose and the starter not fully engaged on the flywheel.

Wasn't too bad, took maybe 30 minutes to get it out and about the same time to replace it with another one. All is good!
