Move that battery to the trunk pronto!

Don't hickjack my thread punk
Anyway... we'll see about the chip when I get it to a dyno which I should be able to do this year. But that is what Turner Motorsport advertises and I don't think Conforti is that off. Anyway... we'll see.
The car moved back home last night. It was at a friends garage for the past 6 days getting the brackets welded in, etc. I installed the UUC SSK last night using the e30 shifter arm and lever. Fucking tits man... can hit all gears plus reverse just fine... no slop in the shifter... just gorgeous.
I didn't get a chance to hammer the throttle because I have some wicked toe-out which i am going to take care of this afternoon. Then Im going to check (for the 4th time) all the nuts and bolts and make sure they are nice and tight. Im hoping the eyeball arms from Treehouse racing shows up so I only have to set the toe once.
Everybody needs to keep their fingers crossed that it doesn't rain tomorrow. There is a storm coming and if it hits this evening, Im good, if it hits late tonight... probably not so good.Comment

Oh, when you do move the batter to the trunk - you can move the coil to where the battery is. It's really going to get hot next to that exhaust. I'm curently worried about my underhood temps - my engine bay gets heat soaked preaty quick in stop and go traffic.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

Unfortunately the track got rained out today. Im trying to set up a new date but may try and get to the track on thursday for their test 'n tune night.Comment

Well... a little over a week to the rain date for the family track day. I have been putzing around with the wheel alignment, trying to get the thing center and its pretty good but a friend of mine knows somebody who can do an alignment for me on a rack for cheap.
I also had a friend cut the rear fender a little bit so I could fit my fat 245-40/17x8.5 rubber in the back.
On memorial day I took the car out onto the road for the very first time to flog it. Holy crap is this thing fast! I slammed on the gas and I was doing 75mph like that. I took a small bump kinda fast and felt the front tires almost come off the road (actually I think I was half airborne for a second but the idea scares the crap out of me).
I am going to get a custom exhaust going as well. I won't be running a catalytic converter. Just a 2-into-1 where the O2 sensor is at, and a 3" pipe back to a flowmaster exhaust. Since I am not running a cat, am I a going to need a resonator? If I need one I will probably just cut the straight pipe and put one in later.Comment

Oh... and one other thing regarding my driveshaft solution (using the front part of the E34 driveshaft with the back part of the E30 driveshaft and didn't bother getting anything cut or balanced).
No vibration even at 75mph... hand on steering wheel... fine... hand on shifter... fine... no vibration in the seat... just a nice smooth fast as hell ride down a country back road.Comment

Ok guys... I've put a lot of stuff up on my website.
questions, comments, pictures of yours you want to add, anything else, let me know. Some stuff is still a little light, like electrical connections, and I need to go over to the garage and take some pictures, but i think its coming along well.Comment

My M30 swap has the battery in the trunk because that's how it came from the factory. E30/M30 didn't move the battery to the trunk because he did his swap in a touring (i.e. wagon) and doesn't have the same concern of weight in the back of the car.
As for an update on when this thing goes to the track we have a rain date for Thursday, June 16th, but I have a feeling that this tropical storm (depending on what path it takes after it makes landfall) is going to screw me over again. This really f-ing sucks.Comment

Well it rained again on yesterday... so no dice with the drag strip. Rain date is June 30th.
Im going to get a simple exhaust put on next week. Basically just a modified version of my previous E30 exhaust. When I go for the turbo kit in the winter I'll get the 3" single exhaust from TCD to go with the kit.Comment

I use a stand alone ECU made by Emerald that uses throttle angle as it's main load input rather than an AFM or MAF.
Home of the Emerald K6 aftermarket standalone ECU (Engine Control Unit) or EMS (Engine Management System)! Emerald K6 ECU is fully user manageable through our easy-to-use software. Plug & Play or Wire-Up engine management and tuning for professional car racing and hobbyists.
We will have to meet up the next time you are over here,Leicester is not far from me.
Your write up/web page is great,it's a shame you didn't do your conversion before mine as you would have saved me time/hassle(cutting the gear linkage) and money(cut and welded prop).
Some of the info on E30.de is wronge and i relied to much on it as at the time i did my swap no one else had the info.
All is good though because we can pass these tips on to any one else doing this swap. There's 4-5 people due to do this swap this summer on my local E30 message board(E30Zone.co.uk).
Cheers

Finally got the 1/4 mile data done...
Well... it wasn't the most ideal day to run at the track. Very hot and very humid... but atleast it wasn't raining.
I ran my car previously with the M20 motor and a conforti chip. My best speed was 15.281 seconds @ 90.05 mph. The fastest speed out of my 25 runs or so was 90.37 mph. That was in 2004 on a nice autumn day. I had a 3.73 diff but it wasn't LSD.
Today was hot and muggy, but it didn't rain so we decided to run. I first ran the car with the stock M30 chip. I have upgraded to a lightweight flywheel and a 3.73 LSD on the drivetrain. I deleted most of the A/C components to reduce weight. The stock chip was rather amazing at how bad it was. My best time was 15.013 at 91.38 mph. My fastest speed was 92.91. I wasn't shifting very well, which makes me think that in good weather conditions and power shifting you could get into the high 14's with the stock setup.
I then went and changed the chip to the Conforti chip I got from turner motorsport. It claims to add 43 hp and 20+ ft-lb of tq. Did it deliver? Hell yes! I ran 14.4s all day long after that on regular tires. My best time was a 14.325 second @ 96.01 mph on slicks (Toyo Type-R) and a half-tank of gas. That was awesome.
My brother-in-law with a Dinan 2003 540i was only a hairs width away from me. I actually beat him once out of the hole and won the race. Should have been racing for slips :D I was running neck to neck with a new Pontiac GTO 5.7L that was stock 'cept for a short shift kit. He only beat me twice out of somewhere between 8-10 runs. He was on street tires and I had moved over to slicks. There was also a stock Dodge SRT-10 (viper motor - 505hp) that was lucky if it got 14.2.. the rest of the time I could have owned him. He kept smoking the clutch... amazed he was still able to get home.
Then there was my other brother-in-law who was running a 1970 Chevelle with a 540 cubic inch Huntsville Performance motor putting out 850 hp. He ran 11.3s at 120 mph like he was going to get groceries... next year Im hoping to have something for him.
All in all... M30 stock kinda sucked. Nice torque, but little difference over an M20. Chipped M30... an absolute must in my book. The difference is amazing.
If it has been a nice cool day I think I could have seen the 14.2s...Comment
