    m30b25 questions

    Im considering and engine swap and just had a few questions on the m30b35. I have a stock 89 325is

    1) what kind of modifications do i have to do to my wire harness if i chose the m20 one. Is it better to use the m20 or m30 harness. If i use the m30 harness does it just plug right into the e30 chasis wiring conection (think its called the c101 connector)
    2) do i have to do any welding or do the engine mounts all line up.
    3) can i use the e30 getrag 260 tranny
    4) What do i have to do to the driveshaft. will the e30 5 speed one work?
    5) What can i use off the m20 (ex. flywheel, clutch kit)
    6) what else important might give me trouble swaping

    I don't want to be rude, but every single question you posted has been answered many times. You really need to read the guide/faq thread.

    4. custom or specific year/model ds is needed, depends on tranny you use

      Here you go. Although you should read several of the swap threads. They have tons of info. Also FrankM E30 sells a CD with lots of info and the price is reasonable.

      1) You can use either one. Each one has its pros and cons.
      2) Engine mounts all line up otherwise why buy them. I think Good&Tight was selling some.
      3) No. You need an M30 specific tranny. From an E32 or E28.
      4) You might be able to but will have to change the piece that bolts the tranny to the driveshaft. You can use also an ETA driveshaft like from an 87 its a direct bolt on.
      5)No.
      6)Getting the engine/tranny in the engine bay might give you problems ;)

          also to add.

          1) if the m20 one is uses you just have to lengthen wires for injector 5&6.
          2) if you buy a set from someone they should line up. if you make then then you have to weld.
          3) no also. u may be able to use your trans brace too.
          4) if you use the g260 from the e34/e32 then you can just swap the output flanges and use your driveshaft.
          5) nothing except the distributor cap/ign coil
          6) buy a BFH and hammer away, you dont wana pull a motor 6-7 times just to get it to fit in the bay.
