    Emissions Check / Inspection

Hey guys, does anyone have an experience taking an m30 swapped car for inspection? I recently moved from NW Ohio that had no inspection and no e-check to Pittsburgh which has both. I'm just curious what my chances are of getting the thing to pass, PA regulations seem pretty strict. The testing consists of a visual inspection of catalyst equipment, and then a tail pipe test at normal and fast idle. Anyone have experience with this or have any tips or suggestions?

Check the PA regulations to know what is required for you to pass. I passed my swap in CA, it has both visual and sniffer test. Basically everything from the intake side (including airbox) to the cat converter have to be in exact configuration as they were on the donor vehicle.

PA regulations might be same or different.

So the cat has to be from a 5 series?

        wildstoats,

We are OBD I so the PA test should only require a visual component inspection, but no sniffer test. EGR & cats have to be there, but they don't have to be functioning. ;) And yes, we still have to pay $37 for some dude to open the hood & shine a flashlight around for 15 seconds for this "service" even though the emissions aren't actually measured.

Cool thanks for the heads up. We'll see how it goes, haha.

In Nevada, you just drive the car up to the booth, let them hookup the RPM probe and sniffer, and shut the hell up/play dumb. The techs here have never noticed that it's the wrong engine, all they care about is that a catalytic converter is present. One time the tech asked me about it and I said "I don't know much about cars." Passed the test and that was that.

            Your state/tech may vary.
