20B Rotory Swap

A friend of mine who is helping me fix up my bimmer is a big RX7 / rotory buff and when the engine swap discussion came up he mentioned the possibility of going with a 3 rotor 20B to swap into my 87 325i.

Has this been done? Would there be any big downfalls to this kind of swap?

Everything is possible with enough money. That being said, I wouldn't do it simply because the rotary motors like to eat apex seals and aren't fuel efficient at all.

Tell me about it.. I think his 90 RX7 gets 13 MPG on the highway and 10MPG in the city.. I'm sure a 3 rotor is much much worse. But if you wanted a good sleeper at the quarter mile these engines would be perfect for that kind of setup and alot of the rotary engines have an insane redline.

Found a website some time ago that had a 20b in a 5 series, can't seem to find it right now though.

For even less you could go with a 13B swap. With the right mods you would have a nice little quarter mile sleeper.. but what would you call it?

I've been in a 325i 4dr with a 13b Rotary Turbo... damn that tihng was pretty nice, different. Stock motor, but with a little more boost, I wonder what ever happened to that car... It's nice and different.

If I had the cash, and wanted to do something different it would either be this or SR20DET

i have a 1987 base modle rx7 i thought about doing a 20b swap until i saw the money so i jsut did a 13bt swap... 20b in a bmw... you gonna be spending a grip of money for that... it cost a grip of money to swap it into a rx7. lol do some search on a 20b in a fc or fd. and see the prices. i stay in texas and theres a place called Alamo Rotary. and the charge 30K to swap a 20b into a 3rd gen rx7... im pretty sure it would be cheaper if you do it yourself...... www.alamorotary.com and just think of the money you gonan spend to rebuild it.. thats gonna cost you a good 3g to 4g's... good luck with the swap. if i was you i'll stay w/ the bmw motors. lol put a s54 in it or something... inline 6 all motor has more power then any of the JDM motors... the 20b is 280HP ... twin turbo... good lcuk i wanna see the project it would be one of a kind....320b...is? lol:jk:

13B turbo in e30 has been done, was in a local car mag ages ago. Ran pretty decent times. Can't tell you much more than that sorry.

20b is a way better motor than the 13b (although i like both)

the 20b has far less of the aches of the 13b and can make power super easy
