    M30 running cold

My m30 only gets up near half way on the temp gauge when I'm siting in traffic, Most the time it stays at just over the quarter mark. Ideas? Often when it does finally warm up it starts to creep over the halfway mark, put upon getting some airflow (getting up to speed) it goes back down. Strange I tell you, where should I start? Thx

How did you get the engine?
If you haven't already put in a new thermostat.
Install it facing the right way and with the bleed hole up.

My engine was straight from a e34 unopened and didn't have a thermostat in it.
Would go into the blue on the freeway.

Yea its a newer b35 so you could be right. No thermostat? Strange. I didn't do the swap a buddy did, I'll have to look into it. Thanks.

There are different temp thermostats. I have two, or that I use during the summer just in case I get caught in traffic and one for winter so that it runs a proper temp.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but....stock b35 thermostat temp is 78C. The temp gauge in your cluster is designed for an m20 which is 88C, so even if the thermostat is operating properly it will always seem a bit cold. It should read just above the 1/4 mark.

The temp gauge is designed to move the needle where the sensor is telling it
to, so it doesn't matter if it's a honda motor it will still read right. :)

If he used the e34 sensor then it'll be off

You need to use E30 sensor to match the cluster....it will read the temp as it did with m20 ..

for the dme, you use the "matching" one from e24/e28/e32/e34...but for the cluster it needs to be one from e30... Same as when people do 24v swaps, the m/s5x one from the e34/e36 chassis isn't going to work with e30 cluster ;)
