Should i swap motors... or work with what i have?

well i have an 85 318i w/ 98k miles on the clock. i want more power, of course, so the question is... should i drop an m20 into it or should i just build up what ive got. i dont know much about these engines, so consider me a noob. help me out, anybody. ive read about the 'stroker' kits you can get, and that looks like what i want to do, but can i work w/ my current engine, or would i have to put an m20 into it and then 'stroke' that?! im lost.

only option to get any decent power out of it is a turbo. Even then you'll only have a bit more go than a 2.5 engine. AND the 2.5 will be cheaper, easier, and more reliable. upto you though...

you can get an m10 to make 160hp without a huge amount of money.

2.0 liter crank, bore it out to 92mm add cam and header. All told probably about $1500. I don't consider that too much. If you swap to m20 you'll be buying engine, harness, tranny, misc other parts. Just a thought.

And the M10 is bomb proof. Underpowered, yes, but bomb proof.

The same can't really be said of the M20.

Are there any websites with some m10 projects on them? I think remember i ran across this one by the name of "m10 power" or something, but i can't find it.

I think those early 318i would be a nice, raw auto-x cars if you're poor like me.
