    mid-swap M30 crunch-time questions

hey guys, we're in the middle of the M30 swap for our lemons car, dangled the motor in the bay last night, race is in 3 weeks. Several questions came up:

    - our M30 is from a 6-series, and doesn't seem to have a hookup for the brake booster vacuum port. What do?
    - there's several vacuum nipples coming down off the bottom of the manifold. What are they for and should I block them off?
    - e30 manual trans crossbrace works, right?
    - If I can't find a big-guibo e30 driveshaft, will the e28 front work with an auto e30 rear?
    - will the e30 throttle cable be fine, or do we need a different one? It seemed to be just a tiny bit to short...

more questions coming as we get the motor closer to functional.

Ok well I am under a car in a pnp in oakland, found a driveshaft. How the fuck does it come out? 2 foot breaker bar isn't really getting any of these bolts to budge...

Which bolts? I usually just use two wrenches to hold the bolt and nut through the guibo, then 2 13mm for the center bearing and the 6 or so 15 or 17mm at the rear with an open end as well

      As for your questions,

-you could always swap intakes to one with a vacuum port, how old is the 6 series? I think I have an extra b35 intake
-I think I have one port blocked off on the bottom of the intake, one goes to crankcase vent tube and the other goes to the plug thingy that goes to the charcoal canister
-e30 trans brace worked fine for me
-Don't know about the driveshaft compatibility, I am using a e28 front and e30 rear, it barely fits
-stock e30 throttle cable should work I believe, I remember having to do something to mine but I can't quite remember what it was

guibo bolts. I know their sizes, but I think these were impacted on.

The 6er did not have vacuum assist for the brakes. It had a hydraulic system. So you will not find a nipple for it.

Take the intake off and drill and tap it for a threaded barb, then blow it out thoroughly.

You could also run the output flange from an e30 and use an e30 driveshaft/guibo.

              JB covered the rest.

Hmm, how bad is removing the intake? Seems like a ton of the electrical harness is very closely tied to it.

Also, I got the driveshaft out eventually. It involved a lot of swearing, bloody knuckles, and the assistance of a mexican-for-hire, but eventually we got the fuckers loose.

The only thing that remains to be found is a sheetmetal shift console, so if you have one or know of one, please let me know. We're aiming to make a DTM-style shifter mount with it to minimize crap in the trans tunnel and raise the shift pivot point...

This is what you do for the brake booster. Take the throttle body off. Unplug the hoses at the bottom of the intake manifold. Drill a hole for your barbed fitting, all the while using a nice high powered shop vac to suck the metal chips out from the drilling and the tapping. Buy a $9 vacum check valve from some crappy auto parts store, plug it in and pray you got all the little pieces of metal with the shop vac...

Or you could just be carfeull and remove the intake manifold.

My 86 535i motor also did not have vacume assisted brakes so I had to drill and tap for this fitting. Works great so far.

Or you can T off the ICV nipple.
