Need help, hard starting m30

I have an e30 with a M30 out of a e28 that has been running great for the past few years. But has just started playing up as described below:

- Engine will turnover till it flattens the battery
- Will then start after a couple of roll starts
- No problems once engine is running, will drive like normal
- When engine does start smoke will come out the exhaust as if its flooded so leads me to believe the engine is getting fuel but no spark(only on startup)

This car is my daily driver and greatly appreciate any help :bow:

coil? rotor/cap needs tobe replace. have you checked for a spark??? But if its starting from a clutch pop then its your battery. need more details buddy

Just replaced the battery it started but took about 4 goes at 10-15 seconds each go.
Will change the coil as i have a spare, doubt it would be rotor or cap as once the engine is started it runs fine.

Have you checked for spark? Don't go replacing stuff if it doesn't need replacing.

A bad fpr can make it hard for it to start.

CSV? have you checked your fuel pressure? maybe your pump is having problems?
