    m30 tranny options

So I've never really known but here's my question: when doing the m30 swap, is it possible to use the e30's G260 transmission? I have looked and even have Frank's swap manual and haven't seen anything definitive on if it can be used or not. If not, is it just the 260/6 and 265 transmissions that will work?

Nope, transmission has to be from something with an m30 or m90.. 260/5(not m20), 260/6 or 265. I believe you can also use the 240 out of an m10 318

This combination is not recommended according to people that have gone this way in the past. You will have issues as they tend not to last long.

Aside from showing yourself to be offensive, lacking experience and ignorant in the ways of business, you're also illiterate and imprudent. Beyond that, your sense of liability is severely impaired.

This is true, I'm going to put in my 2nd M10 this weekend. Just to get along. Still looking for a suitable tranny though.
The tranny that goes onto the M50B25 wont work, I presume?

No m20 gearbox is gonna work the have different bell housings to the m30.
My friend is doing alright with the m10 gearbox on his m30 you just have to het a heavy duty clutch or else the stock m10 will slip like hell. G260/6 is on standby however.

The 245 5speed (e21) was good enough for Alpina when it built M30 powered e21 cars.
That being said it is wiser to use the larger gearbox.

The only trannys that will fit are from an M30/S14/M10. (waiting for someone to point out some super obscure tranny that fits every engine ever built by mankind and make me look like an asshat)

There is only one BMW trans that will fit all BMW engines through M50, etc.

                The 265 gearbox with removable bellhousing came behind S14, M30 and M20 ('82 528e)

Haha good one. Ya I had a 265 from a S14 that I want to use for an M30 swap but someone put that eta bellhousing on it.

It's too long. You need to modify it to shorten it or use oem linkage from a 2002 or e23 IIRC

You must use this linkage with a g265:

                        (after shortening modification)
