The f****r won't go over 4k!!!!

I recently picked up an 83 533i as my new project and she's a beauty, but the god damn thing won't rev over 4k when driving, it will sit there and hit revimmiter all day in nutral but in any gear it won't go past 4k. It also hesitates to accelerate as well. I did the crank sensor thinking that may be the problem and unhooked the battery over night to drain the capacitors in the system thinking that my be the problem and the computer my need to relearn with the new we for but still no change. So before I just go and throw parts at it and blow money I thought to ask the r3v world and get some opinions.

Unplug the tps and see what happens.

Had the same issue on my e30. Check the clearance between the sensor and crank wheel. That was my issue.
