    m30b34 ?'s

I was looking on e30.de, about the whole oil pan situation. Im trying to get the swap done as cheap as i can.
I was wanting to know whats the deal with the b34 oil pan? It says you can use it... but not very descriptive. When you use the b34 oil pan, is this were you have to " modify" the firewall with a big hammer, and push the motor as far back as you can or what???
If i use the b34 oil pan, will my engine sit low enough for my hood to close?
Please help iv looked all over r3v, e30tech, bimmer forums, and cant find any info on the matter.
The reason im asking about the b34 is because its what i have to work with.
m30b34, im gonna use a m10 trans, again because its cheap and itll work for now. and ill be using an m20 harness.
Any info giving will be greatly appreciated and any extra info aswell

We finished our b34 swap late last year. The car is a 86 325e. We installed the engine in position 3 - much of the firewall had to be "reworked".. Other positions would be easier but your CG wouldn't be as good - we road race the car.
Yes - you do have to swap the oil pans - the b34 sump will hit the cross member. You will need one from a 535/735i (b35 motor). You will also need to swap the oil pumps. Post a WTB in the Wanted section. I'm sure someone out there will be able to help you. I think I paid $250 for the combo.

The transmission we used was out of 87 535i so it basically bolted right in. Small mod to the factory transmission brace. Luckily the 86 325 has the right size driveshaft flanges. All we had to do was cut 2" out of the driveshaft.

Using the m20 wiring harness was easy. Get Frank's guide - it shows you which wires to swap / cut / move.

We did the entire conversion (including rebuilding the b34) in 3 weeks.

The car was dynoed with the Miller War Chip and MAF conversion - we ended up with 174hp / 205ft/tq at the wheels - not bad for basically a stock b34.

Put simply, you will need a b35 pump pick-up and pan (to answer your question)

Be aware the b34 also has a coolant fitting at the back of the head which will be a pain when it comes to clearance of the fire wall.

      What clutch are you using?

Its a new clutch, factory replacement i believe and a single mass flywheel. for now, later on when i decide to boost, im gonna go with the stage 3 6 puck, and lighten the flywheel. But for now i think it'll do the trick.
But thanks for the much needed info.
Anything else i should look for? or be aware of?
Iv been reading up on the swap for the past week or so. Seems to be pretty straight forward

We stuck with the b34 since I had 4 in the shop. If I had b35's I would have used them. Our car is gutted so the rear coolant passage pipe wasn't a big deal - we removed the firewall and moved it back a about 3"'s and built a access panel for easy egress to the rear of the motor. I'm sure if you got position 1 or 2 you will just need to use a hammer and "re-shape" the area near the coolant pipe.

Pictures of "access panel" would be great!

OK, Well i actually, took some advice.... sold the b34 and scored a b35 out of a e32 car, Its clean as hell, But still gonna do a gasket set on it, and it should be golden... At least this is the plan lol

You have started incredibly well, now that you have something much better to work with!

You will be super glad you made this choice once you start putting the engine into the car.

ha, yea i hope so. Its gonna be kinda a track/street car if that makes sense... lol
I want it to be quick to take to test and tune for drag nights. And be able to drive it to work the next day.... As long as nothing breaks the night before.
Once i get the gasket set installed. and everything seems to be good.
Im planing on installing my 3 piece head gasket, (even though it seems to be overkill, better safe then sorry)
                      and my arp head studs.
And slap the old hx55 on her and let it go....
And again this is the plan as long as everything goes to plan.... But im expecting some bumps in the road no doubt
