Temp Gauge not working

Suddenly, my temp gauge started to flicker erratically, then die completely.

However, I'm not sure if this is a SI board issue as all other instruments and the service indicator are all working as normal.

Could the sensor itself gone bad? If disconnected completely, would the needle deflect full cold or full hot?

any ideas?
