Starting out on my first engine swap M30b34

Car: 1986 325e Sedan. Since it's over 25yrs old, no emissions required!

I've been collecting parts for 6 months now... I'm hoping to start the swap in 2 weeks or so now that the summer heat isn't in full blast. This is my first engine swap of any sort. Hopefully it'll be a good learning experience.

This is what I have so far:

    M30B34 engine complete from a 86 635csi
M30B35 oil pan and oil pick up from a 89 735i
    oil pan gasket
    260/6 manual getrag transmission from a 86 535i
Complete harness (no cuts at all) from 86 535i
    ECU from 86 535i
e28 radiator from 88 535is (from an automatic...)
e28 front half drive shaft (just in case even though I have a 86 325e)
    complete e28 535i exhaust
    325ix washer fluid bottle
    89 325i coolant resovoir
    QBANG b34 motor mounts
    E36 Z3 3.15 Torsen Differential
E30 325e motor mount and transmission mount bushings.
    New Water pump
    New Thermostat
    Valve cover gasket
    new accessory belts
    e28 lower radiator hose
    e32 upper radiator hose.
"T" from e28 upper radiator hose for
New Sachs clutch kit with throw out bearing and pressure plate
    Standard Flywheel from 535i E28
    7k RPM instrument cluster from 89 325i

    Things to buy:
    Sanden 508 A/C compressor (R134a refill)
Sanden compressor mount (or just fabricate my own)
    New rear main seal

    Considering:
I'm considering the Z3 2.7 steering rack. Problem is that I just haven't found one yet. I'm considering just settling for an easily attainable e36 rack. Or even not doing one at all...
I found a decent deal on e36 M3 front spindle / brake setup for the 5 lug swap. I want it for the bigger brakes but that means I'd need new wheels and tires (just got new tires for the e30 last month!). So this is also in the air. If I go with the 5-lug swap, I'll need a 318ti or Z3 trailing arms and wheels of course.

I'm also considering doing the walbro 255 fuel pump swap. The car is old so ideally I'd like it swapped out for peace of mind.

What I have not planned for:
I have no idea what I'm going to do for the exhaust! I'm thinking of hacking up the e28 downpipes and have it welded one way or another on to my existing 325e muffler... I haven't given it too much thought yet.

I'll post pictures of the progress! Let me know if you guys have suggestions or point out things I haven't considered.

    Thanks

If you can find a 633 flywheel, they are single mass and are supposed to be a big difference on these motors.

Where in atlanta are you? I am in Kennesaw, just north of Atlanta, and I am collecting up the last parts for my m30b35 swap.

I'm in Norcross. I've been keeping an eye out for the lighter flywheel. However, I'm not too concerned with it. The e28 535i flywheel should be fine.

633/533/M5. All the same part. They're all single mass, whether they are the 15lb or the stock 26lb.

Gotta watch the build dates on the 5/633s though. Only the early ones got the 15lb FW.

Lemme tell you, it wakes the fuck out of these engines. My B35'd e28 has one with an M5 clutch and it's a blast.

I have one out of a 633 and also had a company rebuild the pressure plate with stronger springs and a 6 Puck clutch disk. I can't wait to see how the engine feels when I do my swap.

I forgot to mention that I'm shopping for an electric fan. From what I've gathered, the spal pusher fan works pretty well. What exact (part number) spal fan did you guys use?

            Thanks

Spal makes good fans, but they are expensive. I have heard good things about summit racing fans and they are more affordable.

I'll check it out. $100-$150 for a spal fan is relatively steep but I'd rather just get that so that I won't doubt the fan in the event I run into cooling issues.

Wow, guess I will have some M30E30 company when I move back to Kennesaw in December...I went with Spal 1600 CFM job; the car has barely gotten close to the half mark in 90 deg heat...

We should all do a Atl e30m30 car meet when you come back. I sure hope that my car would be up and running well by then.

I did euro-delivery on my e92 back in 07. Picked it up from the BMW delivery center in Munich and drove out to Nuremberg doing 155mph pretty much the whole way on the A-bahn. That is an experience everyone has to do at least once. Legal speed! I wanna go back and visit! How fast have you gotten the m30 swapped e30 up to?
