There is so much confusion with the weight of the m30 its not even funny. Search for yourself but I have seen numbers that put it at 40# over the m20. If you are going to go a/c delete, p/s delete, or hood delete your right there at the stock weight on the front. And its not going to impress anyone off the light.

If your moving the fuel behind the rear axle (and nearly doubling it) you have just compensated for the weight gain without any of the deletes and then some.

Everything you have set your mind on has disqualified you from any classification that the e30 could be built too and your running in power to weight classifications. With the m30 your not going to be doing to good there.

Figure out what you want to do with the car and then find someone that has already done it and ask them questions as to what they would do different.

Your best bet is to buy one done. Its cheaper and it will work or wont before you throw money at it. I have done one motor swap (alfa gtv with euro twinspark) and bought one (e30-m30) After everything was said and done on the first on I have about 30k (full restoration) into it the second I was driving for 5.5k.

If your not going on the track get the cheapest easiest motor to put back in to get it rolling again. If you want to get on the track save up 10k and buy a car prepped for the track. There are quite a few e30, e36, e36-M3's, and sbc/sbf track cars already built that can be had for anywhere from 6-10k.

^^^ I would agree with everything you said except for one thing.....I like doing swaps because "I" did it. There is something about building it yourself that buying will never satisfy.

I am with you Iron, I am not done building yet ;) just in this case it does not pay. e30-m30s are cheap and there is plenty to play with after the fact. If you want to build get a 2002 and drop a m42 in it; that's a fun swap.

If you really want to build get a FFR 818R for 15k you have a wicked track toy.
