Getrag 260/6 Rear Casing Removal Help?

Soooo I snapped a transmission mount tab as seen here:

Rather than pull the entire motor and trans out or try to have it welded while on the car, how difficult would it be to pop the rear casing off and have it welded off the car? Will a bunch of parts fall out or will it be pretty easy to do? I don't want to mess anything up and I don't have my bentley book up at school. Pretty sure all I need to do is drain the trans, pop the rear flange off, take shift linkage off, then unbolt and slide the casing off. Anyone done this before? The insides of transmissions scare me.

exactly right, Ryan. It should pull right off once youve removed the linkage and output shaft.

Theres no way for you to take the car in and have it welded up? Friend of mine did the same thing to his ZF tranny and he just drove the car to the welding shop and left it. they did it with the car on the lift just by dropping the trans mounts and letting the trans droop. Thats another option you have but if the car is immovable, I can understand going through the hassle of taking that rear cover of.

Dylan was talking to me about this Ryan... Just drain your fluid, go get it welded in the car, and also get some gusseting put on so you don't keep having the same problem. Just my 2c.

How about use your AAA Membership to tow your car to the welding shop and have it done right on the spot?
