    Swap a Diesel Motor into a 325e e30

I was wondering what motor's in europe or the US that are diesel will pretty much fit right into an e30. I want to do this not to ultimately run on diesel but on SVO (Straight Vegetable Oil) I helped a friend convert his Volks Quantum and it runs great. I like my BMW very much and don't want to give it up just for free fuel. Also, what other car's that are similarly styled to the e30 did BMW make that are diesels?

    Thanks,

    -Nathan

It seems like there are plenty of options of engines from Europe but that would be a pain to get over here. The only thing i can think of over in the states is a 524td, would that motor fit?

Heh, new game! See who can get the most HP out of a SVO engine :) That auctually sounds pretty interesting. Most people want SVO for economy, but lets T/C a SVO engine and see what happens :) I almost bought a 300d MB for a inter car and was going to go SVO or biodiesel

e30 and e28 td motors are the same, they use all the same shit.

The e28 524td did come to the states, but they are slower then dogshit rolling up hill. e30's in europe recieved the same motor. Both cars in europe also received a non turbo version of the same diesel motor. Slower then slooowww.

The way the emissions laws are currently the car would have to pass emissions based on the engine the car originally came with. So in your case so long as it passes as a 325e you would be alright.

Good luck finding an extra M21 with everything you'd need to make it run. Only ~4000 524td's came to the states, all automatic. And with the price of diesel, you'd probably actually spend less on gas overall by just putting 87-octane into a well maintained M20B27. And ETA's make a little more power and torque, too.

He doesn't want to run diesel, he wants to run SVO (BioDiesel). It's stated in the thread.

I have been wondering about switching my 325is over to SVO, but I don't know about SVO and propane injection.

Read up on Gale Banks and the Dodge he went to run with at Salt Lake...200MPH and pulled a trailer there and home.

Hmmm, probably not gonna happen it looks like. I was more asking just to see what was out there. Probably would be much easier to go with a mercedes turbo diesel as they are much more readily availible... O Well... I will stick with my eta (which gets ~30 mpg highway!)

Emmissions would not be a problem though, seeing that SVO is WAY better (at emissions) than a gasoline engine ever hoped of being.

People tend to forget SVO not only isnt free, it's getting to be expensive. If you've got a hookup, go for it. But if you just think "I wanna drive for free", start working on that cold fusion deivce, cause SVO is in demand now. (Just because everyone wants something for nothing.) It's still cheaper than diesel, but dont expect to find lots of free stuff.

                              Bump...

I too have been looking around at the options of putting a diesel into my e30. Needs a new engine, wanted something that gets better mileage than 17 mpg. Is there a way to get the new m41 to fit? Tubo diesel four banger sounds nice...
