m30 Oil Pump - VIR Killed our b34

    Hey
We just had a bad weekend at VIR. At hour 14 (24hr long race) our newly built b34 was killed. One of my drivers over ran his headlights - missed the turn while in 5th gear - pedal to the floor.. Hit the tires backwards - pushed the trunk in. Not a big deal - until he decided to restart it and drive 2 miles back to the pit. He didn't see the Low Oil light ( big F'in red light on the dash) turn on ( did I say it was dark out as well). The pan was smashed - he drove till the motor seized up. Head had a b35 cam and fully ported - all new bottom end / rings... Awesome - I have another race in 5 weeks and need to get it fixed.

    I just got a used e32/34 pan of ebay - $60 steal :)

Oil Pump question - I think I remember having to buy a e32 oil pump. Can I just swap pick-up tubes ( are the pump bodies the same?) I can't remember. I see folks just selling the pan and pick-up tubes so I'm thinking I can swap pick-up's?? Help.

I found a b34 long block I can get for $300 with only 39k on it. I also have a fully rebuilt ( all new parts- every part) I built years ago sitting in the corner with TDC's Stage II ( first prototype system) waiting to go in something. I hate to use my new / Chromed b34 in our race car.

Let me know - I would rather not have to buy another oil pump.. Funds are getting tight quickly..
    Thanks

That driver won't be racing with us anymore - he ended up with a concussion and wife has said no more racing....

Pump bodies are indeed the same. I just swapped pick-ups when I did my swap. Sorry to hear about all that, hope getting it back together goes smoothly.

oh man I thought this was going to be a thread about oil starvation on sustained lefts, but sounds like you guys had a gnarly time :(

good luck getting it back together! ours is still apart on my workbench, just 1 weekend to go...

Thanks for the replys... Glad to hear we can just swap pick-ups. We picked up the b34 with 39k on it today..

When we got the car back to the pits it felt like we lost a family member :( It's amazing how many hr's and $$'s any of these cars take to build..

As long at the body checks out okay - she will live again and soon :)
