333i E30 factory cooling pipe rear of head

Guys, I have a 333i factory M30 car that has always behaved in the cooling department. As some of you are aware I am updating certain bits of it. My Alpina rad started leaking but I already had collected over time a E28 radiator and new mounts to move the engine back to make room for the new rad. The head that is on my car has the pipe on the back of the head and even with the Alpina mounts there is not much room by this pipe. Car is right hand drive so has the brake transfer arrangement behind the bulkhead. Anyone got any solutions to this or is it just about bashing with a hammer. Is this area double skinned. As I understand it is best to keep this pipe. My car is a turbo as well so things get quite hot.

    Cheers in advance

My m30 motor has the tube at the back of the head. yes keep it and route it in to the cooling system. I had to bang my fire wall for room at the back of the head

Nice quick response. I am lucky that I am already all plumbed in. how much bashing did you do. Do you think I can do it without pulling the engine right out as it is already in situ albeit to far forward. Was thinking leverage with a crowbar or is it quite solid in that area? Just looked through your thread and see you had some issues getting it in there, however I have different mounts so perhaps not as bad for me.

      Thanks

You can either pull the engine or the head but either way is going to need a hammer. It has to been pushed back a good inch to no rub.

Yup and it's a process of dropping the motor checking fitment then pulling and hammering..... Repeat.

            333i sump

            Hi
Will you have to replace the Alpina sump when you move the engine back from pos 1 to say pos 3. I looked on my 333 and there only seems to be about 6-8mm clearance b/w the sump and the rack.

yes the alpina sump is a no go. There is some good info in my members ride thread.
